The women we love series generally highlights women in the Pacific Northwest we meet through our work or cultural pursuits in the city. They are the women we contemplate when conceiving new garments; inspired by their contribution to society.
One of the women we profiled encountered the esteemed Angela Davis, who complimented her ensemble. Ms. Davis relayed that she was familiar with our company and had worn our clothing. When our art director learned she had been invited to talk in Seattle, she extended an invitation to visit our warehouse. She accepted our invitation and we got to meet one of our heroes and dress her in our clothing.
We are grateful for the enduring wisdom of Angela Davis and urge you to listen to her lectures and work to realize her ideas. At the Womxn’s March in Washington she introduced the concept of 1459 days of resistance and it’s something our company has taken to heart.
“We dedicate ourselves to collective resistance. Resistance to the billionaire mortgage profiteers and gentrifiers. Resistance to the health care privateers. Resistance to the attacks on Muslims and on immigrants. Resistance to attacks on disabled people. Resistance to state violence perpetrated by the police and through the prison industrial complex. Resistance to institutional and intimate gender violence, especially against trans women of color.” – Angela Davis
We will continue to hold our government, colleagues and family accountable to all of us, and above all to those most at risk. – Prairie Underground
